Hi! My name is Mariko. I am a Lifestyle Family Portrait Photographer in New Haven, Connecticut, USA. I am a proud mother of two little girls.

Here is a little story of myself. I was born and grew up in the countryside of Hokkaido, Japan. As a kid, I used to think the scenery was not very interesting. However, I made friends with several visitors to my hometown who were photographers and I saw how they were able to capture the life and people of my town in a totally different way. I discovered that photography can give us new perspectives and reveal the beauty of what is around them. Since then, I have become passionate about photography's potential to capture that hidden beauty.

Like many parents, I have taken tons of pictures of my child but not as many of our whole family. Time flies by so quickly and parenting is challenging, making it easy to miss the beauty of every moment. Photography is one way to remember those moments. That is why I've become passionate about family portraits. I hope that I can help capture those precious moments of your family that you will cherish many years to come.

はじめまして。Marikoと申します。Lifestyle Family Photographerとして、アメリカコネチカット州ニューヘイブンで活動しています。二人の小さな女の子のママです。

ここから少しだけ、私のストーリーをお話しします。

私は北海道の田舎町で生まれ育ち、１０代は都会への憧れから自分の住む土地につまらなさを感じながら過ごしていました。そんな中、海外から移住してきた外国人フォトグラファーたちと出逢いました。彼らのレンズを通して見る土地や人々はあまりにも魅力的で、私の見ていた世界とは全く違うものでした。私の中に衝撃が走りました。写真は、新たな視点を与えてくれる。私も、そこにすでに存在する美しさを見い出す眼を養い、周りに伝えていきたいと、強く思いました。それから、私の写真の旅が始まりました。

初めての出産、育児を経験してから、子供の成長の早さに驚き、戸惑い、一日、一年の速さに圧倒される毎日です。目まぐるしく成長する娘と、何も変わっていないような自分に焦燥感を覚えます。写真マニアの私は、もちろん毎日娘の写真を撮り続けていますが、私自身の写真はほとんどありません。きっといつか忘れてしまう、けど忘れたくない、乱雑だけれど愛おしく誇らしい日々の健闘を讃えたい。今、共に格闘している誇らしい家族の「今」を記録することで、ふっと立ち止まって「今、ここに在る自分たち」を味わい感謝したい。これから何年経っても、その時の気持ち、空気感、感触、匂いまでも思い出せる写真を残したい。私と同じように感じている誰かにも、そんなお手伝いができればという想いでカメラを握っています。
