Connection
A few weeks ago, I had a visitor. She used to work together with me over a decade ago. I had never imagined that one day we could catch up in a place far away from where we were. We talked about so many topics while showing around the town. I wanted to show her everywhere that we ended up arriving at the train station in the last seconds. While we were rushing to catch the train, we were both remembering the time we worked at the airport as passenger service agents of an airline. It was a stressful job, but I loved that I always felt a strong teamwork sense.
On the next day, I had a coffee chat with my new friend who is a busy wedding photographer and also a mom of a three-year-old girl. There were so many things to talk about and time flew away so quickly. During our conversation, she mentioned that she values connection. She values collaborating with other talents, recognizing that each of us is seeing things differently, and helping each other is key. It was the Community Over Competition spirit. I’ve also heard about it from one of the most successful family photographers I respect, so I got so excited when I heard the word from her too. There is so much to think about my journey that I am so excited and overwhelmed at the same time, but still, I got a huge positive energy from her.
These two days made me strongly think about connection. I have reconfirmed that I value human connection the same as before and now. I will bring my full energy into the sessions for people who choose me to capture their precious moments, with gratitude.
先日、２０代の頃を共に過ごした職場の後輩がニューヘイブンに会いに来てくれました。積もる話が沢山あって、彼女と一緒の街歩きも楽しくて、時間はあっという間に過ぎていきました。最後、駅まで送る途中にあれこれ見せたいものがありすぎて、列車の出発寸前滑り込みセーフで間に合う、という私企画のギリギリプラン。(Sちゃん、ごめん！) 駅のホームまで２人で猛ダッシュしながら、当時、私たちがエアラインの地上スタッフとして空港を走り回っていた時のことを思い出していました。チームで働くという経験は、分刻みのスケジュールでストレスも多かったけれど、チームメンバーの繋がりを強く感じる日々でした。そんな当時を懐かしく思い返していました。
その翌日、娘のクラスメイトのママとお茶をしました。同じ３歳の女の子の母であり、多忙なウェディングフォトグラファー。共通点が多い彼女との時間は、話が尽きなく刺激的で楽しい時間でした。彼女の話で一番印象的だったのが、チームワークを主軸にプロジェクトを展開しているという彼女の価値観。フォトグラファーそれぞれが違う視点を持っている。そのことに価値を見出し、競い合うのではなく手を取り合うことで共にサポートし合うというもの。ジャンルも今いるステージも違うけれど、写真の話ができて、とても嬉しかった。頭の中は興奮とこれからやるべきことでいっぱいだけれど、大きな前向きなパワーをもらいました。
人との繋がりを強く意識する２日間。昔も今も、大切にしたいことは変わってないんだな、と気づくきっかけになりました。大切な時間を記録するために私を選んでくれた人たちに、精一杯のエネルギーを注ぎます。感謝を込めて。
